CUPPING

Cupping Therapy was first used in ancient Egypt and is a millennial therapy. Today it is considered an alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on the skin for several minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue manipulation.

The Cups can be made of different materials; I work with silicon cups.

There are also several ways to use the cups, and in some cases there is no bruises or marks left on the skin.

The nervous system is thought to be one of the primary ways where cups achieve the desired results. The nervous system is where we experience and perceive pain, and it can control the resting tone of muscles. Pain may be affected in much the same way as in neuromodulation—using a non-noxious or non-threatening sensory input and pain-free range of motion to decrease pain.

Cupping may also ease symptoms of:

  • Arthritis, including Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Breathing  problems, such as Asthma
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders, such as irritable bowl disease (IBD)
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Headaches, especially Migraines.
